MS Dhoni steps down as Chennai captain, Jadeja to take on responsibility
Chennai will begin its journey in the Indian T20 League 2022 on the 26th of March. Just two days before the match, in what comes as a piece of surprising news for the supporters, MS Dhoni has stepped down as a captain of the team.
MS Dhoni has been leading Chennai since the inaugural season of the Indian T20 League. He has captained Chennai in 204 matches, winning 121 of those games. With an amazing win percentage of 59.60, he is one of the most successful captains in the tournament’s history. During his reign, Chennai played nine Indian t20 League finals, winning the title four times.
Today on the 24th of March, the Chennai franchise released a statement on their official website stating that MS Dhoni has stepped down as the captain of the team, adding that MSD has handed over the responsibility of leading the team to the star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.
Ravindra Jadeja is an important member of the Chennai squad since 2012. He was deemed as the perfect candidate for the role by many cricket experts, given the fact that he knows the team culture and the work ethics of the franchise.
The announcement is going to make the Chennai fans emotional. While they will be excited to watch Jadeja in the new role and see how the team performs under him, they will certainly miss their beloved ‘Thala’ as their leader.Â
The franchise has made it clear that Dhoni will be continuing as a player this season and beyond.Â
