Virat Kohli opens up about his dismal form before the Asia Cup 2022
Kohli feels there is nothing much to do for him to come out of this phase.
Virat Kohli has been having a torrid time of late with the bat. The star Indian batter has failed to score a hundred in any format of the game for over 1000 days now. The 33-year-old has finally opened up about his dismal show with the bat for the past three years. Despite finding himself in the worst phase of his career with the bat, Kohli feels that there isn’t much scope for a course of correction.
“I know where my game stands and you cannot run this far in your international career without having the ability to counter situations and counter conditions and counter different kinds of bowling. So, this for me, is an easier phase to process, but I don’t want to put this phase behind me,” Kohli said on the Star Sports show ‘Game Plan’.
The legend of the modern era further drew parallels between his horrific tour of England in 2014 and his current phase.
“What happened in England was a pattern, so something that I could work on and something that I had to kind of overcome. Right now, as you rightly mentioned, there is nothing that you can point out saying that the problem is happening here,” Kohli noted.
“So, that for me, is actually an easier thing to process because I know that I’m batting well and at times, when I start feeling that rhythm back, then I know that I’m batting well,” the former Indian captain added.
Kohli will be seen in action again in the upcoming Asia Cup starting on 27th August. India will kick off their campaign with a game against arch-rivals Pakistan on 28th August. Pakistan have suffered a huge blow before the match as their star pacer Shaheen Afridi has been ruled out of the tournament due to an injury.
“I know there are ups and downs, and when I come out of this phase, I know how consistent I can be. My experiences are sacred to me,” Kohli further said.
