West Indies vs India 2023
‘Aisa WC main bhi khel liya karo’ – Fans react to India winning 4th T20I by 9 wickets to keep series alive
Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal were at their blistering best as they made light work of the West Indies total
India took on West Indies in the fourth T20I in the United States of America. West Indies won the toss and chose to bat first and give a big total to the Indian batters. Shai Hope, who was playing in his first match of the series, kept the entire innings alive through a 29-ball 45 after Mayers got them started to a little bit of a flyer.
However, Shimron Hetmyer’s 39-ball 61 was the deciding factor in the first innings. The left-handed batter was aggressive, targeting Axar Patel as well as the pacers despite being cautious of both of the specialist spinners because of his lack of runs and form heading into the game.
The hosts were down to 123 for 7 at a certain stage due to constant wicket loss at the other end, however, Hetmyer as well as Odean Smith scored 44 runs for the eighth wicket to put them in a commanding position. Arshdeep Singh grabbed three wickets, Kuldeep was spectacular with his two, and the remaining runs were scored. In the end, they made a competitive score of 178, which seemed a tricky one to chase down.
India’s chase of the West Indies’ total
Jaiswal established the tone by scoring a boundary off the first delivery of the chase. On the contrary, Gill was cautious at first but quickly made up for it. India scored 66 runs during the powerplay, hit numerous boundaries, and didn’t lose a wicket.
The opening pair kept up their rapid scoring pace and reached their hundred partnership within the tenth over. After three consecutive single-digit scores, Gill recorded a fifty, while Jaiswal raised his first T20I fifty during the same over. When Gill blasted out to deep mid-wicket, the 165-run opening partnership finally came to an end, but it was far too late for the Windies.
India, in the end, won the game convincingly with around three overs to spare. The series is poised with one game to go and it can be anyone’s game but both teams will give it their all to clinch the series in the last match at the same venue.
