Star India batter Ambati Rayudu has announced retirement from all forms of cricket after winning the Indian Premier League 2023 with Chennai Super Kings. Rayudu has been phenomenal throughout his career and has represented the two best teams in the IPL. He has been an integral part of Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.

However, Rayudu’s international career was nothing sort of a roller coaster ride. He has been dropped from the Indian team before ODI World Cup in 2019 despite having great form. Rayudu finally opened up about his selection and what he felt after that. In a recent interview, Rayudu revealed that the Indian cricket board has asked him to prepare for the mega event in 2018.

“I had some issues with the member of the selection committee when I was playing with them in the early stages of my career, which might be one of the reasons why I was out of the team in World Cup 2019,” Rayudu told TV9 Telugu. Notably, Only one month before the 2019 Cricket World Cup, India Captain Virat Kohli assured the press that Ambati Rayudu was a lock for the No. 4 spot in the ‘Men In Blue’ squad. However, when the lineup for the flagship competition was announced, Rayudu’s name was unexpectedly not on the list.

Rayudu and ICB had a ‘3d’ controversy

After his exclusion from the squad, Rayudu tweeted a cryptic post taking a dig at the selection committee. He said, “Just Ordered a new set of 3d glasses to watch the world cup”. This created a big drama on social media and a senior board official also reacted to it. We have taken note of what Rayudu has tweeted. (But) Let’s accept that emotions are running high at this moment. There is bound to be disappointment and there needs to be an outlet of expression as long as it’s not out of line,” a senior BCCI said

“He will need some time to soak in the disappointment and it’s understandable. There is no need for sanctions. Also, he is one of our standbys. If any injury happens there is every chance, he would go,” the official said. Notably, Allrounder Vijay Shankar was picked over Rayudu in India’s squad for an unsuccessful campaign. Indian team failed to hold their nerves against New Zealand and lost the game.
