The match between Mumbai and UP in the ongoing Women’s T20 League turned out to be a very one-sided affair. The team led by Harmanpreet Kaur was on top of their game as they registered an eight-wicket victory. There was nothing in the bag for the losing side, and a bizarre incident left fans wondering about UP’s luck.

Harmanpreet was given a reprieve when a slower delivery down leg-side from pacer Anjali Sarvani grazed the stump, lighting up the bail, which moved from its groove but did not fall. Alyssa Healy, the UP captain, began celebrating behind the stumps before realising that the batter had survived by the slimmest of margins.

Here is Harmanpreet Kaur’s bizarre survival

The incident happened in the 11th over of Mumbai’s innings, when Harmanpreet was batting on 7 with Nat Sciver-Brunt at the other end. At Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai was chasing a 160-run target.

Earlier, UP posted 159 for six in 20 overs thanks to fifties from Healy (58 runs in 46 balls) and Tahlia McGrath (50 runs in 37 balls). Saika Ishaque, the Purple Cap holder, added to her wicket tally with her spell of three for 33 from four overs.

As for Mumbai, they were at the top of the chase from the word go. Yastika Bhatia (42 runs in 27 balls) gave UP a tough time as she opened the batting with Haley Matthews. After the two openers lost their wickets in consecutive overs, it was up to the skipper and Sciver-Brunt to chase down the target.

The two put on a brilliant partnership of 104 runs that helped them chase down the target with 15 balls to chase. Harmanpreet (53 runs in 33 balls) scored a match-winning half-century, while Sciver-Brunt stayed unbeaten on 45 runs in 31 balls.

In the meantime, the Women in Blue and Gold are the only unbeaten team in the Women’s T20 League. They are at the top of the points table with four wins in the four games that they have played. They will play next against Gujarat on the 14th of March.
