‘Aap ke muh main ghee shakar’ – Fans react as former Team India opener predicts Virat Kohli to lead run-charts at ODI World Cup 2023

If India wins the forthcoming ODI World Cup in 2023, former India batter Virender Sehwag wishes Virat Kohli to be carried on shoulders similar to Sachin Tendulkar in 2011. Tendulkar was carried around the pitch by his teammates, including Kohli, who was a member of the 2011 World Cup-winning Indian team.

When the Indian team advanced to the World Cup 2019 semi-final in Manchester, where they lost to New Zealand, Kohli served as captain. The 34-year-old is going to be crucial for India in the huge tournament this time around alongside skipper Rohit Sharma, and Sehwag believes the two seasoned players deserve to take home the World Cup.

Virender Sehwag said this while speaking to Cricbuzz ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023. He said, “These two senior players deserve to win the World Cup. Rohit Sharma was so close to getting picked for the 2011 World Cup but missed out. Later he became the Badshah of ODIs, he deserves to win a World Cup trophy because he is a fantastic player.”

During the 2019 World Cup, Kohli finished without a century but was still in strong form, scoring 443 runs with an average of 55.37 and striking five half-centuries. Having 1030 runs across 26 games, he has the second-most runs for India in World Cup history. He is listed after legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar in this list.

“I want him to be carried on the shoulders and get a round of the ground”: Virender Sehwag

Sehwag said that Kohli missed out on a century during the previous World Cup, however, he wants him to make up for it this time by finishing the competition as the top run-getter.

He said, “Chiku (Kohli’s nickname) didn’t score a single century in the 2019 World Cup, this year I hope he scores many hundreds and ends up as the leading run-scorer in the tournament. Then, I want him to be carried on the shoulders and get a round of the ground.”
