‘Aaj Biryani Khaunga’ – Fans react as SRH register their first win in IPL 2023 defeating PBKS by 8 wickets

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) finally opened their account in IPL 2023, defeating Punjab Kings by 8 wickets in match number 14 of the season. Meanwhile, PBKS get their first defeat of the season after winning their first two matches consecutively.

Batting first at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, PBKS posted 143 runs for the loss of 9 wickets, powered by the knock of the skipper Shikhar Dhawan who fell short of his century by just one run. In reply, SRH chased the winning total in 17.1 overs losing 2 wickets.

PBKS didn’t had a great start, as SRH pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar strike on the very first ball of the match to dismiss Prabhsimran Singh. After that, Marco Jansen dismissed Matt Short in the second over and Jitesh Sharma in the fourth over as PBKS were reduced at 22 for 3.

After that, Dhawan added 41 runs with Sam Curran for the third wicket. Curran was looking in good touch but lost his wicket in the ninth over after 22 off 15 trying to take on Mayank Markhande and ended up giving a catch to Kumar at the point.

After that, Dhawan took the innings further with wickets falling regularly from the other end. PBKS lost 9 wickets at the score of 88 after 15 overs. After that, the PBKS skipper added 57 runs with Mohit Rathee for the 10th wicket, out of which, Ratheeonly scored 1 run facing two deliveries.

Dhawan’s knock went in vain as SRH chased the winning total losing 2 wickets

Dhawan remained unbeaten on 99 runs from 66 balls hitting 12 fours and five sixes. For SRH, Mayank Markhande scalped 4 wickets conceding 15 runs in his four overs. Umran Malik and Marco Jansen took 2-2 wickets each, while BHuvneshwar Kumar put 1 in his bag.

Chasing the winning total, SRH lost 2 wickets for 45 runs in 8.3 overs. After that, Rahul Tripathi and the skipper Aiden Markram took charge and put up an unbeaten partnership of 100 runs for the third wicket as SRH scored 145 runs and won the match with 17 balls to spare.

Markram remained unbeaten on 37 off 21 balls hitting seven boundaries, while Tripathi scored 74 runs off 48 balls including 10 fours and three sixes. Arshdeep Singh and Rahul Chahar were the only wicket-takers for PBKS.
