On Monday, September 11, New Zealand selected their final 15-man roster for the ODI World Cup 2023. After fighting a knee injury he sustained at the IPL earlier this year, their captain and top batter Kane Williamson has returned to the team.

Williamson is joining Tim Southee on his fourth World Cup engagement after recovering earlier than expected. Mark Chapman, a white-ball specialist, was chosen for the team as a result of his successful season with the bat, particularly in the T20 format.

The southpaw’s ODI average this year has been at 23.60, but his T20I statistics have been astounding, including an average of over 50 as well as a strike rate of almost 146 in 18 games.

Who else has made the Kiwis squad for ODI World Cup 2023?

Two newcomers to the New Zealand World Cup roster are right-handed batsman Will Young and spin-bowling all-arounder Rachin Ravindra. For the Black Caps, Ravindra has been an invaluable asset, particularly in the white-ball games. In the opening ODI of their four-match series, New Zealand defeated the reigning champions, and he recorded figures of 3/48.

The 23-year-old is going to be an additional spin bowling alternative after Mitchell Santner as well as Ish Sodhi despite having subpar ODI statistics with batting average of 22.50 as well as bowling average of 39, respectively.

While Williamson was out of the side with injury, Young has served as a model of consistency for New Zealand’s top order, averaging nearly 47 over 17 ODIs with a strike rate of 90.20, including two hundreds and three fifties.

Before selecting his team for the World Cup, Gary Stead, the head coach of New Zealand, acknowledged that he had to make a number of difficult choices.

He said, “It’s always a special time to name a tournament team and I’d like to congratulate the 15 players selected today. It’s a great honour to represent your country at a World Cup. From Kane and Tim heading to their fourth tournament to the guys selected for the first time it’s always a very exciting time.”
