India tour of England 2022
‘A great fightback’- Twitter awestruck with India’s retaliation in the fifth Test against England
India ended the day at 338/7 after once struggling at 98/5.
The first day of the India- England Test saw one cracker of a game. With the game swinging in either side’s favour at different times, it was a true spectacle of the great game’s uncertainty.
After winning the toss, the English captain Ben Stokes decided to field first as they have been chasing quite well for some time now.
India opened their innings with Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara in the absence of Rohit Sharma, who is out with COVID infection. The opener Gill soon parted ways at the team’s score of 27 when an outswinger from James Anderson. It was the same story for the next four batters who fell prey to the English quality bowling and were dismissed for low scores.
Virat Kohli came to the crease with huge expectations after going take rest for a significant period of time. Millions of cricket fans were in hopes of a great innings from the ex- India captain. However, once again, he couldn’t live up to expectations. He got out off Matty Potts after scoring 11 runs in 19 balls.
Hanuma Vihari and Shreyas Iyer also could not grab their chances and went for 20 and 15 respectively. However, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja then joined forces and turned the game completly in favour of the visitors.
Rishabh Pant, with a sensational 146 off of 111 balls, was the man of the day, hitting English bowlers all around in a dismissive fashion. Jadeja, with 83*, also came up with a great knock and remains at the crease on Day 2. India finished their innings at a previously unimaginable score of 338/7 on Day 1 and now look good for Day 2 with Jadeja and Mohammad Shami on the crease.
Let’s look at how at the Twitter reactions to the 1st day of the India- England Test match.

This (338) is the highest India has ever scored on the opening day of a Test match in England. Thanks to Rishabh Pant's 89-ball century, the fastest by an Indian keeper in Test cricket. #EngvInd

@jbairstow21 in the last series might have changed the test cricket middleorder batting style forever ! @RishabhPant17 has already shown his bravado in Australia! Extremely dangerous player ! India in a good position it’ll be interesting to see how Baz/Stokes respond now ! https://t.co/bM2ZIxKZoM

That was a great fight back. Mr Pant certainly was on fire. But controlled fire. Jadeja & he have certainly swung match back India’s way. Still, given new aggressive edge of Eng – lots to happen yet. What amazing test cricket we’ve had this summer

Not only spinners, pacers too on non flat pitches ??
Kohli has earned the tile of a tailender in test cricket nowadays, no one has hopes from him. India's batting in test cricket is openers, Pant and lower middle order.— Omkar (@Omkar_21_) July 2, 2022
