‘9-5 in 2.3 overs’- Arshdeep Singh and Deepak Chahar break South Africa’s back with outstanding swing bowling, watch the video

India vs South Africa

After winning the T20I series against Australia, India would be keen to replicate a similar result against South Africa. The first T20I between the two sides is currently underway and the Indian bowlers are breathing fire at the moment. Earlier, Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field first. The cricket fraternity was left shocked after he revealed that Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the first T20I due to back pain.

In Bumrah’s absence, Deepak Chahar has made his way back into the playing XI. He opened the attack alongside Arshdeep Singh and the duo wreaked havoc with the ball. Both made full use of the swing and bounce on the surface and made life difficult for the South African batters.

Deepak Chahar cleaned up Temba Bavuma on the last ball of the first over of the innings with a beautiful inswinger. Arshdeep Singh came into bowl the second over and knocked over De kock’s stumps on just his second delivery of the match. Three balls later, he also had Rossouw caught behind with a beautiful outswinger to leave South Africa in deep trouble.

David Miller didn’t stay too long either as Arshdeep Singh knocked his stumps over with a peach of a delivery. Rising star, Tristan Stubbs was the third batter to get out for a golden duck. He found a thick top-edge only to be caught at third man off Deepak Chahar’s bowling. South Africa, as a result, lost their five wickets for just 9 runs in 2.3 overs.

If somehow you missed the fall of wickets, don’t worry, we have you covered. The Indian Cricket Board has uploaded a compilation video of all five wickets on their social media handle.

‘5 wickets summed up in 11 seconds. Watch it here,’ the Board wrote it as caption.

At time of writing, South Africa have lost their seven wickets for 80 runs in 17.1 overs. Maharaj is playing a handy knock in the middle. He is currently unbeaten on 23 off 27 deliveries.
