5 Players who might face harsh axing ahead of Indian T20 League 2023 mini auction

Could this be the end of their career at the Indian T20 League?

The 20-20 World Cup 2022 in Australia is currently underway. Teams such as India, South Africa, New Zealand etc. have put in brilliant performances and the fans are excited to see which four teams qualify for the knockout stage. Amidst this, the Indian Cricket Board have sent a deadline of 16th November to all the Indian T20 League franchise to finalize their 15-member squad.

The Indian T20 League mini-auction is slated to take place on 16th December and, it could well take place outside of the country for the first time in the history of the competition. The teams would be looking to trim down their squad and a lot of good players could face harsh axing ahead of the auction. Here’s a look at five such players:

1. Kieron Pollard

Kieron Pollard has been a veteran for Mumbai in the Indian T20 League. He has served the franchise for several years in the cash-rich league and helped them win a lot of matches with his batting masterclass. Pollard, however, had a forgettable outing in the last edition.

He just couldn’t get going and struggled to play spin. Pollard is no longer the captain of the West Indies team and, perhaps, isn’t the batter that he used to be. With Mumbai having got the likes of Tim David, Tristan Stubbs, and Brevis, Kieron Pollard could face harsh axing ahead of the Indian T20 League auction.

2. Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins endured a forgettable season last year with the ball for Kolkata in the Indian T20 League. He leaked runs at more than 10 runs an over and could only manage to pick 7 wickets in 5 matches. Cummins hasn’t had great success in the shortest format for the last 12 months. His ability to bowl at the death has taken a hit and it is quite visible in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup. Given the kind of form he is in, he might face a harsh exit as well.

3. Adam Milne

New Zealand fast bowler, Adam Milne’s career has been dented because of injuries. Ahead of the 2022 edition, he was roped in by Chennai but couldn’t play more than one game. After playing his first game for the franchise, he was ruled out of the tournament due to injury. With Chennai having got the likes of Matheesha Pathirana, Deepak Chahar, and Mukesh Choudhary, Milne could well face a harsh axing from the franchise.

4.  Riley Meredith

Mumbai bought the services of Riley Meredith for the 2022 edition of the Indian T20 League. The seamer, however, failed to impress as he only managed to pick 8 wickets in 8 matches at an average of close to 30. Daniel Sams had a decent season with Mumbai last year and with Jofra Archer also likely to return next year, Meredith could face an axing ahead of the auction.

5. Ravindra Jadeja

Given the series of events that have happened since the last edition’s Indian T20 League, Ravindra Jadeja and the Chennai franchise are likely to part ways with each other ahead of the next season. Earlier, Chennai had denied having any rift with Ravindra Jadeja. However, if recent reports are to be believed, the Indian spinner is likely to be traded to Delhi for Shardul Thakur and Axar Patel.
