5 Most underrated international T20I cricketers of all time
These players did not receive massive popularity in T20Is despite being very good at their craft.
The much-awaited 20-20 World Cup is finally upon us. With the mega event having started with some shocking results, fans have been reminded to reconsider their ratings. Going with the same trend, we have brought about five of the most underrated players to ever play in T20Is.
Hashim Amla
Hashim Amla is a Test great. Many consider him to be one of the greatest batters to ever grace the cricketing pitch. His records in Tests however give a false sense that he wouldn’t be good in T20Is.
This perception goes out of the window, however, when you look at his T20I records. 1277 runs in 44 matches at an average of 33.60 and a strike rate of 132.05 make him a very good T20I batter and among the most underrated T20I cricketers of all time.
Ashish Nehra
Many consider Ashish Nehra to be an ODI bowler; one who could bring about wickets after enticing batters to hit him. Fans expect him to have been costly in T20Is. However, one glance at his record throws this perception out of the window.
Nehra played 27 matches and took 34 wickets which in itself is a good start. What however is exceptional is his economy of 5.60, something that not even the best can achieve.
Ish Sodhi
When someone thinks of a great T20I bowler, Ish Shodhi certainly does not rank anywhere near the top. Stats however would tell you otherwise. The Kiwi bowler is one of only five bowlers to have taken 100 wickets in T20I.
The fact that he isn’t as famous as Rashid Khan and Maliga makes him one of the most underrated T20I players of all time.
Sikandar Raza
The Pakistan-born Zimbabwe player Sikandar Raza can be called an accidental cricketer, as he got into professional cricket quite late. The batting all-rounder however has now become a very good cricketer in T20Is but is rarely rated among the best.
Raza has made 1136 runs in 60 matches at a strike rate of 128.36. Additionally, he has also taken 32 wickets, making him a solid modern-day all-rounder.
Samuel Badree
Samuel Badree hardly ranks among the top West Indies player on anyone’s list. He often gets overshadowed by the likes of Chris Gayle, Sunil Narine, Andre Russel and a whole host of other great players.
Badree however is one of the best when it comes to economy rate in the fastest cricket format. Badree has taken 56 wickets in 52 matches with an economy of 6.17 in a format where 7 is considered quite good.
