‘1983 world cup mein aapne bhi kuch nahin kiya’ – Fans tear apart Sunil Gavaskar for his ‘I think you should ask Kohli’ statement
Virat Kohli got out caught at slips after scoring 44 runs in the second innings of WTC Final.
Former India skipper Virat Kohli and vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane carried the hopes of India’s win on Day 5 of the WTC Final. They had put together a partnership to end Day four of the game. On the last day, they were expected to take the team close if not home. Meanwhile, Kohli was caught at slips by Steve Smith off Scott Boland.
With this, the right-hander came under criticism from none other than Sunil Gavaskar. After India was bowled out for 243, losing the game by 209 runs. The 1983 World Cup winner said that Kohli played an ordinary shot. The former added that we should ask Kohli about what sort of shot was it.
“It was a bad shot. It was an ordinary shot. You’re asking me about it, I think you should ask Kohli. What was that shot? That was a shot outside the off-stump. We talked so much about the fact that to win a match, you need a long innings. You need a century-plus innings. How are you going to play a century-plus innings if you’re going to play a shot so far outside the off-stump,” Gavaskar said.

Speaking further about Kohli’s dismissal, he said, “It was a pretty ordinary shot. Outside the off stump. He was leaving till then. Maybe he was conscious that he needed one run to reach his half century. It happens when you are nearing a milestone.” Meanwhile, the fans are divided over the matter.

The Great 36* off 174 Sir – Commenting on other's personal milestones ??
If that shot of Kohli went for a boundary with a cover drive- This guy in the com-box be like : "What a shot from classy player, he made it look so easy!" ?#gavaskar #ICCWTC2023#ICCWorldTestChampionship

Kohli played a bad shot there but Gavaskar seems to criticise him more than anyone else, these retired cricket players never blame @BCCI for anything. How many test matches this year did Ict players played for complete 5 days. WTC final 10 days after IPL without a practice match.

Jansen repeatedly took out Kohli by bowling that wide line. Same was done by Keith Jamieson

but no one will talk about classic test cricketing shot played by rohit skipper or not everytime it's virat's mistake

e should know that Kohli has made plenty of runs – in the same area and same line and length delivers. Sunny is just favoring Mumbai and its players. So, his statement does not have any impact.

Respect for gavaskar, each and everyone knows virat weakness on 5 and 6 th stump off stump line. He should not played that cover drive, sachin in Sydney against aus not played a single cover drive, we expected from virat the same test of character and he failed in it.

@saliltripathi
What wrong has he said ?
Fetching the ball way outside with no proper footwork is a bad shot…. Yes he should have been responsible … ego and arrogance always has a downfall!
High time @BCCI takes strict action on these repeated non-performers !— hornbill (@hornbil96393039) June 11, 2023
Gavaskar himself got out like this many times in his career.
But now he can conviniently criticise because he has a mic in his hand not a cricket bat.— Mohit Malhotra (@Imperialfurntr) June 12, 2023
